Many of this writer's storylines are based on memories of the once beautiful and productive ranchsite of my ancestors. My dream is to see it renovated and historically restored. Lizzie -Ponca Pioneer Woman- A story of Meka-Thee-Ing-Gay, (Little Bright Moon) Elizabeth "Lizzie" LittleCook, born 1884, died 1963, daughter of Oo-Hah-Shingah Samuel LittleCook and Esther (BrokenJaw) LittleCook. Lizzie was what would probably be known as an anomaly during her time. She stepped from one set of circumstances, as to an ingrained set of rules with her Native American culture, into becoming successful in a totally different culture, that of the pioneering Anglo society. She became a court reporter, a notary public, an interpreter, and a law office secretary. Lizzie was educated at the Chilocco Indian School, and late in her life shared her life story with a Chilocco Indian School student of journalism, her granddaughter, Donna Jones-Flood, author of "Lizzie." The publication includes a photo of Lizzie. |
