Adah Gertrude Jones |
"Belle" daughter of Nathaniel & Elizabeth (Brewer) Collins, was born on the 8th of January, 1871. She was married to Joseph the 8th day of February, in 1889. She immediately left Harrison, Arkansas, with her new husband, who was there on a cattle drive with his father, William Stephens Jones, from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Belle drove the oxen team on the trip and at Bartlesville, the pin came out of their yoke. Joe dived into the icy waters of Hogshooter Creek, brought the pin up and replaced it on the oxen's yoke, giving direction allowing them to bring the wagon and Belle across the creek. Joe and Belle had their marital problems, too. They were separated for a year while Joe operated a saloon on town. Belle held to their land during this time, alone. They were reunited, sold their land, bought out of Guymon, Oklahoma, and with the dust bowl settled at Ralston, Oklahoma. At Ralston, their oldest son, Dennis H. Jones, became acquainted with Bertha Big Eagle, Osage, and married her. With wise management of her wealth, Belle and Joe lived out their days on the beautiful prairie land outside of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. The Jones's acquired and built two ranches and five town houses. One of the ranches was the "Stroke Axe Place," where Lee Otis Jones, their second son, ranched. Adah Gertrude, their daughter, was a pioneer in her own right, and her husband, Dan T. Wadley, designed grain elevators. |
Donna (Jones) Flood (granddaughter of "Belle") has spent more than a decade collecting ancestral family photographs, as well as performing extensive historical and genealogical research related to each photograph. She has acquired a collection of over a hundred photographs, which, with the help of her husband, Rodney Lee Flood, has been orgainized and batched with the research findings into a soft-bound book of over 250 pages, entitled "Nancy Bellzona's Picture Book" ~1896, Oklahoma~ The book is sorted into family-branch segments, some according to Tribal-based relationships (such as "The Osages"), some according to surname-based relationships (such as "the Collins'), some according to geographically-based relationships (such as "The Arkansas Family"). The book also contains a "Reading List," a "Source-of-Reference List," a "Picture Identification List," a "Name Index," and more. And work is in progress getting the book onto CD format! A version of the photo seen near the top of this page is being used as the "cover photo" for the book and CD. |
